Care records support
What to expect from your care records
Every file is different, but there are things a lot of care experienced people notice. Knowing them in advance won't take the shock away, but it can help you feel a bit more ready.
Missing information
Some pages, photos or whole years might just not be there. Files get lost, damaged, or were never kept properly in the first place.
Gaps aren't your fault, and they don't mean your story matters any less. I can help you ask the right questions and go looking for what should exist.
Mistakes
You might see names, dates or descriptions that feel wrong. Sometimes files repeat rumours, or someone else's opinion about you, as if it were fact.
You're allowed to push back on what's written. I can help you spot what looks off and work out how to challenge it, calmly but firmly.
Redactions
Parts of your file may be blacked out or held back. It's frustrating, especially when it hides people or choices that shaped your life.
Redactions are usually about someone else's privacy, not a judgement on you. I can explain what you're entitled to see and help you ask for more.
Hard memories
Old reports can bring back pain, confusion or grief. Words on a page can feel as heavy as the things that happened.
You decide how much you read, when to pause, and when to stop. I'll sit with you through the hard bits, at your pace.
Good things you never knew
Alongside the difficult pages you might find kindness you'd forgotten, people who stood up for you, or proof of your own strength.
Those moments matter too. I'll help you notice them, mark them, and keep them safe.
